RECIPE

INGREDIENTS

Pear Simple Syrup

½ cup water

½ cup sugar

1 pear (cored and cut into pieces)

2 star anise

1 tablespoon cinnamon (or 2 cinnamon sticks)

Pear Gin Fizz

2 shots Maroela Gin

2 shot fresh lemon juice

1 teaspoon Pear Simple Syrup or more for your sweetness level (ingredients above)

60 ml lemon-flavoured sparkling water

Crushed ice

___________

GARNISH

Star anise, sliced pear, a sprig of thyme.

METHOD

This is your new best friend on a cold, grey winter's day. With a seasonal flavour and generous gin kick, this cocktail is light and refreshing with just a hint of spice.

The recipe has two steps: first, make the Pear Simple Syrup (you can make this ahead of time) and then it's on to the Pear Gin Fizz – let's go!

Pear Simple Syrup

In a small saucepan, heat all the ingredients over medium-high heat (water, sugar, cored & chopped pear, star anise, and cinnamon).

Bring to a boil and stir until the sugar dissolves.

Remove from heat. Cover and let it steep for 30 minutes.

Remove the pear and star anise.

Strain cinnamon (optional) and store it in the refrigerator until you use it. You can make this ahead of time!

Pear Gin Fizz

Now that you've mastered the Pear Simple Syrup recipe, the rest is super easy!

Fill your favourite cocktail shaker with ice.

Add Maroela Gin, lemon juice, and Pear Simple Syrup (recipe above) to the shaker.

Shake for 15 seconds (until the shaker is cold).

Strain into a glass.

Top with lemon-flavoured sparkling water and garnish and enjoy.
