It’s here—International Women’s Day!
There is no denying the powerful force of women. Women’s involvement in the alcohol industry dates back centuries, and even before the Industrial Revolution, the industry was predominantly female-driven, brewing beer and distilling craft alcohol.
Interestingly, scientific research has also shown that women are naturally better at tasting than men—they have more sensitive palates and more taste buds! Women played a huge role in shaping the alcohol industry, and today, are still a major contributor to the sector.

In celebration of International Women’s Day, we’re showing our support by paying homage to the incredible ladies here at New Harbour Distillery.
It all started with the ingenious & creative mind of our co-founder, Andri Janeke. All the prettiness, love, and care she has put into our handcrafted spirit brand is immeasurable! Do you love the attention to detail in our packaging? It’s all thanks to her! She is also the driving force of the team—we won’t be where we are without her.

Today, we wanted to celebrate the women who do the hard work on the floor—the ladies who work alongside our master distiller in the production facility. At New Harbour’s experimental micro-distillery, we do almost everything in-house—from extracting the oils from botanicals, distilling the delicious products, bottling, labelling, and packaging. It’s a well-oiled machine, folks, and all kudos go to the team on the floor. That is where the magic happens, distilling our renowned Rooibos Gin, Spekboom Gin, and Maroela Gin, to name a few.
We want to celebrate the women at our distillery who effortlessly steer our ship into the harbour, every single day.
Shoutout to these beautiful ladies! Thank you for always having all hands on deck!

This lady here is our new distiller! She joined the team on 1 February 2021 and the fit is perfect. She does the day-to-day production of spirits and development, and, in her own words, ‘learns how to make the best spirits in the world!’ What does she enjoy most about working at NHD? The freedom to explore and find what you like/dislike about distilling and the alcohol industry.

Meet Anita
She’s the rudder of our ship! Anita is responsible for bottling, labelling, and packaging. She makes sure that all the bottles are labelled correctly, and that our beautiful packaging is on point, every time. She works hard and is a fast learner.
